Congress information - Welcome
Invitation

The International Symposium on Biopolymers (ISBP) is a successful congress series on biopolymers that has been held every two years since the initial meeting in Toronto 1988 (1990 Barcelona, 1992 Göttingen, 1994 Montreal, 1996 Davos, 1998 Tokyo, 2000 Cambridge, 2002 Münster, 2004 Beijing, 2006 Minneapolis, 2008 Auckland, 2010 Stuttgart, 2012 Cairns, 2014 Santos). The 15th edition, ISBP2016, is scheduled for September 26-29 and will be held in Madrid (Spain), organized by the Spanish Society of Biotechnology (SEBIOT) in collaboration with the Spanish Research Council (CSIC).

The traditional spotlight of ISBP has been on biopolymers like polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), cellulose and rubber. ISBP2016 will also extend the focus to other bio-based polymers like PLA, BioPET and others, including talks on the biotechnological production of building blocks to generate bio-based polymers (biodegradable and non-biodegradable).

ISBP2016 will be specially interested in connecting cutting edge technologies like systems biology and synthetic biology to the biopolymer and bio-based polymer field.

Topics include molecular basis biopolymer/monomer synthesis, metabolic engineering and bioprocesses, new feedstocks for bioprocesses, life cycle analyses and advanced bio-based polymers. One day of the symposium is reserved for oral presentations on commercialization of biopolymers and bio-based polymers (Industry day, reduced registration fee for exclusively attending the session). Delegates from companies and academia will be welcome to participate in ISBP2016.
